Undergravel Filter

I am setting up a tank with an undergravel filter but my gravel is very fine. will i need to use a layer of larger gravel first to stop the finer gravel falling straight through

I'll just jump in prior to all the "you don't want an undergravel filter" posts...


How fine is fine......around 1mm gravel should be OK....depending on your undergravel grid/layer.



Oh.......and I am not specifically for or against undergravel filters. They can work very well indeed, but do have certain limitations.
