This is a question I pose to they who are familure with the Juwel range of aquarium's.

As you know, the Juwel has a light rack that will move from front to back. Helpful when you are maintaining the tank.
I am informed that additional lighting can be added with another rack. I am considering a night or moon light. But rather than the additional light rack, I was wondering about those LED lights that seem quite prevelent lately.
Do the makers of these lights make moon lights?
Also, is it fair on the fish to add constant light? Even though it would simulate the moons light...

...Anyone?

its a perennial question this. but remember that fish anywhere in the world, will not often be in complete darkness, bearing in mind the cycle of the moon, and indeed the stars! as a sub plot to this, should we time our "moonlight" to coincide with the phases of our moon? it would seem that the fish can feel its effects!

it would seem logical, that fish are blind to red. as water acts like a photographic filter, its blue content overpowering the red. though i realize this will be reduced if the fish live in shallow water. but, it could be argued that fish may be blind to blue, thus emphasizing the low red content of the light they get.
that said, it seems many fish see, or can see, in infrared. oh yeh some see the ultra violet. confused? I am.

it looks to me like many fish do have colour vision. the type of light they are sensitive to varies with different fish. even some closely related fish, have greatly differing sensitivities. it seems, according to the fish, they can see, ultra violet, infrared, polarized light and even in a similar way to us.

which leaves us with the intensity of the light. we all know we, humans, have virtually no colour vision in low light. the same seems to be true of many fish, but certainly not all.

lol perhaps the answer is. yes, no, maybe. depending on the fish. though if you add "moonlight" and your fish can be seen to rest, you cant go far wrong.

So would you say that those LED's (on the ebay link) would certainly fit into a Juwel aquarium?

yep they sure would. i have a set myself, though i made mine. one tip is, try the leds at different voltages, do not exceed the reccomended voltage though. often the, mostly 12v, setting can be too bright. dropping the voltage will reduce this.
