Umm :S?

What size is it volume wise then? As in litres or gallons...

That's quite a large pleco you've got in there, did you know it'll grow to 11"? I'm not presuming you don't, it's just that compared to the other fish the plec needs a tank that is at least 4ft in length and over 15" depth from front to back.

Anyhoo, depending on the size of the tank I would definitely suggest upping your number of tetras, often they do much better in groups of 5 and above. It gives them the security they need to be less stressed. Less stress tends to mean longer life and more natural behaviours.

looking at knox's photos in the photo thread his tank is a 60l/15g.

Well if that is the case then I would recommend re-homing the plec when it reaches about 4", as much over that and you could be risking stunting it's growth, and it'll be a massive strain on your filtration.

Especially if you're keeping the stingray filter, they have a ridiculously low surface area for bacterial colonisation.

Yep. i know about Plecos.

And from reviews from other members sting ray fitlers ar'nt the worst.

And i plan on upgrading to 75 gallons soon ( if i can get the cash for one)

If i cant home my pleco.

I guess i'll either sell him On forums or give him away to some-one on the forums all depending i guess

Fair enough.

But stingrays are bad, I've had one. Comparing it to most other filters I've seen and had I'd estimate it has a surface area of roughly 1/2 of your averge filter.

Also, I found they were noisier than your average filter.

Mines fairly quite.. Depending where i place it.

Yes i'll edmit it.

I've had BETTER filter's in the past...

I Have one lieing around some-where but i cant find it anywhere :/

Even if i did it would proberly be broke.

I agree with Curiosity,

IMO StingRay filters should only be used in small tanks 25l max. :good:
Stupid LFS scamming me off :grr: time to buy myself a better filter system.

I Sepnd over £100 pound on a stupid freakin 60litre when i could of spend £100 on a 75 gallon with filteration etc! Its beginning to cost me a arm and a leg!

Oh I wasn't trying to suggest you change it. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the problem. :)

But yes I completely agree with betta_246, second hand is almost always best when it comes to fish stuff.

I Know.

But i will probz change filters anyway.

Also.

last time i brought a second hand tank off ebay ( around 5-6 ft not mine my moms & dads oscar / pleco tank )

It ended up cracking and breaking and flooded the house lucky all fish suvived. and we got another tnak a few weeks later i might buy a 1200 filter to make my tank the ulimate. but i reckon the fish would get eatne by the filter.

What would you recommend anyway?

For a 60l either a Fluval 2+ or Fluval 3+, I had a 3+ in mine, but it's quite tall so I'd measure before buying (if you get one).

Also, try to get a spray bar for it, this way although it's a higher powered filter, you shouldn't find your fish get blown around.
