haven't posted on here for a while, and i know we promised pics of our big tank but can't figure out how to post pics anymore!

anyway, one of our 5 torpedo barbs has protruding eyes.. i think he has always had slightly protruding eyes, but the last week they both seem to be getting a lot worse, especially his right eye. he exhibits normal behaviour; eating, swimming and 'frollicking' with the other fish, but his eyes are just bizarre! no other fish are exhibiting this sort of deformation either.

we just can't figure it out. if anyone has any ideas what it may be then that would be great! in the mean time we will keep an eye on him..

thanks for the help!

sorry it has taken so long to reply! the water stats are fine, no nitrite, no ammonia, and a pH of 7! the other fish are all really happy and healthy, although to be honest apart from his eyes the affected fish is also behaving normally!

there are no signs of red blotches or streaks on his body either.

could it be too much aeration? the tank is a rena classic 200, 640 litres, has 4 small airstones, and two rena xp3 filters.

thanks for any help!

To much aeration can be a bad thing can you turn it down.

sadly the little guy died this morning :byebye: .. he was transferred to a hospital tank, where we medicated the water, unfortuneatly the meds did nothing for him, in fact his eyes (one more so than the other) began protruding even more. we deduced that it must be a tumor, and therefore there was nothing we could do, we moved him back to the main tank so he could live out his last few days with his buddies. he seemed quite happy, but we knew he was on his way out. :rip:

thanks for your help though.

Or bless him, R.I.P.
popeye is related to dropsy because of the buld up of fluid, like any desease once it advances hard to cure.
Was he old wondering if his immune system shut down.
