Hello all,

I plan to buy Ultraviolet Sterilization since I am over stock my fish at the moment so i need to keep the water condition to the best that i can. I check out few shopping site and saw so many different type of Ultraviolet Sterilization.

What brand that you recommend?

Thanks

I don't believe that UV sterilization is the right answer (not to mention quite costly and unneccessary for freshwater tanks, IMO). If you have a overstocked tank the obvious answer is to remove some of the fish (hopefully to a new tank!), but if that isn't an option, why not added more filtration?

Depending on what you're running now, you could add another external filter, add a canister-type filter or if you're determined to have high-tech hardware, you could always try and setup a wet/dry trickle system and/or column filters (there's a dream!).

I would try any of those options before getting into UV.

I wish i can upgrade to 125 gallons or add more tank but i have no more space for it.

I use 2 FLUVAL 404 now. The reason I'm thinking about UV since I just want to put extra prevention.

How much it will cost?

With overstocking - your problem is inorganic pollution. A UV will do nothing with inorganics, it works by disrupting the genetic material of live organisms thus rendering them either dead or useless - your pollution has no genetic material!

2 x 404's that's a lot of filter there - how big is this tank?

The trouble is adding more filtration is that your nitrates will climb out of control, more bacteria eating more ammonia/nitrite=more nitrate=more waterchanges so your back to square one again.

The only answers to overstocking is to lighten the load or either invest in some heavy duty expensive equipment or keep up with small daily water changes.

Sump/wetdry filtration systems are not overly expensive to set up, a little more than say a top of the range eheim external, but are very fiddley and really need the tank to be drilled. Take a look at THIS site which is reasonably cheap for custom made and specialist filtration

She could always add in a algae scrubber to make up for extra nitrates :) Those are neat little devices I've just started looking into.

honestly unless u have serious space constraints, it would be much cheaper to get a new tank and i'm sure ur fish would be happy too
