I recently bought an aquarium from EBay and picked it up at the weekend.

Whe I ot it back to the house and started to set it up I noticed a strange smell as I started to fill it. After a while I recognised the smell as being Windowlean :S , the bloke I bought it from had cleaned the INSIDE with flippin Windowlean!!!

clean it with vinegar i think it was, make sure you do it thoroughly and rinse it super well
stupid people....the person probably just wanted to make it look cleaner.

Oh the joys of Ebay!

Why not go the whole hog now and give it a good 25% bleaching then a thorough rinsing. After that give it another good rinsing....then another

I would also suggest bleaching it.[/quote]

If you do bleach it, make sure you rinse really well, and then when you fill the tank do a double dose of dechlorinator. You should be fine, good thing you noticed it BEFORE you added fish.

Bleach should oxidize and gas out once it's dry but to be on the safe side, do a thorough rinse and then let it dry. And if you want to be extra cautious, use vingear later.
