hey i was wondering what wuld b that best fish u culd keep in a reasonable size tank...under a 100g where u culd actually see them feed ( hunt and kill). Just my u cant really with my bichir and wuld like to get a fish like that...so i culd stick guppys and feeder fish and watch lol!!!

Snakeheads

Try something like a Channa Bleheri or Channa Gachua. Very good hunters, as most snakeheads are.

P.T.

Yea they are cool, i no there are the dwarfs but they need large tnaks and no tank mates right??

The dwarf snakeheads are not as agressive as their larger cousins, but tankmates should be quite big, at least big enough to stand its own against the snakehead. What do you have in your tank now?

P.T.

another would be the butterfly fish, i haven't actually seen mine eat young lplatties but they did dispear over nights and when you put crickets in thats quite a sight.

i'ved seen mine catch live river shrimp aswell.

Well if you have an empty tank, you could get a breed of pirrhana that likes to be kept alone.

well ive got a 40gal and one senegalus bichir in there, and just wanted a cool predatory fish, but nothing to aggresive because i really like my bichir and dnt wana get it hurt. i did want a pike cichlid bt nt sure bout that any ideas

Leaf fish (south american or Schomburgk's). You can keep one SA in a 10g, or 2 Schomburgk's in a 10g (if you can find these, the SA are more common), they only eat live fish and are pretty good at it :) Both top out at 4inches or so :D

Yea i do like them, cool fish just they need very good water quality and low ph which is hard for me to provide its higher around my area. Mayb il get the drwarf pikes..hmmmm

Just so that you know, Feeding live fish to your preditory fish is illegal in the UK and is punishable with a hefty fine and the confiscation of not only the fish, but also any other animals (dogs, cats, hamsters, whatever) in your care. You may also be subject to a court order banning you from keeping any animal for a while or even for ever

That's rather evil, I think... I feed my frogs and lizard crickets, but not so that I can watch them die. My frogs see a cricket and BOOM it's gone in one gulp. But getting a fish just so that you can watch it kill things? That's kinda sick. :(

I find absolutely no problem giving fish feeders.
Most people don't buy feeders for the "shock: value though.
As long as you know what you're doing theres no problem.

I occasionally give my fish feeders, some of them need some excersize *cough*Mo*cough* And others need them to survive, like my leaf fish :) I don't enjoy the poor feeder's demise though, the death is pretty quick with most fish, you can't even see my leaf fish attack, the fish just dissapears

That feeder fish law is rubbish!!! They didn't take a minute to think of the fish that eat the feeders. Alot of them need to be fed live fish to start off to be wined onto other foods, but live fish is still part of there diet to keep them healthy. With that ban they might aswell ban import of any fish that requires fish on the dinner plate!!!

I didn't actually buy my butterfly fish to watch it eat and catch things near the surface i wanted somehting different but i do enjoy watching it in motion!!
