In the UK it's usual to order a tank by its dimensions rather than its volume, i.e. a 6x2x2, etc. In the USA and Canada they tend to specify the gallonage rather that tank dimensions. To determine the theoretical volume in US gallons, multiply the length (in inches) by the width by the height, and divide by 231.

I have noticed, especially with the Juwel rage that they specify the tank dimensions and the approx volume in litres. This annoyed me as the tank size is 121x62x51cm's approx 300ltrs. I just call it a 48x24x20 and worked it out as 380ltrs before anything added.. arrgh too confusing. its so much easier just finding out the US gallons.

must agree clareuk, have quit smoking myself and funding that into two items: my 47gal (US) tank and a nice film projector and screen - so much bigger and cheaper than a plasma screen.

When I talk gallons I talk Imperial gallons (what is this UK gallons nonsense? ).

I prefer just to put the size of the tank though, then everyone can go and work it out for themselves.
