Ugly Swollen Mass On Fantail Guppy

i had a problem with my guppies a while ago and posted here someone directed me to this page- http/www.guppyhobby.com/hexamita-white-feces-refusing-food/ which looks a littel bit like yours though I would agree with the others saying it's an injury (thats what it looks like but I'm still new to fish keeping) it may still be worth looking at

It looks like a prolapse to me too, as someone already said. I am a successful livebearer keeper but am far from a disease expert. You are already in the right section of the forum for disease advice. My fish seldom get sick because they get proper care and I inspect fish before I bring them home. When I see a disease, I show up here for help getting answers just like everyone else.

His condition is deteriorating and he is having trouble swimming now. His gills are moving fine but he is preferring to rest on the bottom of the tank in an unnatural position. At this point will the medications do any good? Or should I use them to prevent spreading to my other fish? It isn't clear to me if this is something contagious or not. Is a prolapse contagious?

It's very, very unlikely to be anything contagious, so meds won't do anything to help. All you can really do is try not to let it suffer; watch out of other fish picking on, which they often do to any fish that is weak

Mr. Orange Fantail Guppy died this afternoon in a quiet private breeding net after an intense 12-hour fight against intestinal prolapse. He was surrounded by the plastic plants that he loved. The neighborhood fish mourned his departure by observing an afternoon of silence. He is survived by his brothers Mr. Blue Fantail guppy and Mr. Black Fantail Guppy.

Any reason to use the anti-bacterial medications now? Thanks again to all for your prompt input in this emergency.

I'm sorry he was very pretty if it makes u feel better I've lost lots to ich and do not have eny of the fish I started with three years ago or even this summer

The drama continues. This morning I noticed thin wispy white stuff hanging from one of the other fantail guppies. It looked very different from the recently deceased fish. The location on its body looked like the anal vent. I thought it was poop so didn't worry about it. This evening there is still stuff there, but it looks different than this morning. It is brown and small. Both the location and the appearance of the mass are completely different than the deceased fish, but it seems like too much of a consistency. He is still eating but seems more lethargic and is hovering near the heater. None of the other fish appear aggressive or have been bothering him at all. I've attached 2 pictures I just took, he is holding still so they came out nicely.

Any ideas what the heck is going on in my tank? Should I treat it with the Triple Sulfa anti-biotic stuff? Thanks so much for any help!

Wow but I think that is an endler mane a cross breed but I'm not an expert I would wait and see about the fish if it gets worse then

This morning the fish seems fine- no mass and normal active behavior. Very mysterious. The 3rd fantail now has what appears to be poop hanging out of him.

That looks like fairly normal poo to me; I'm sure it's not related to what your other fish had; I think it's just a coincidence, and also that you're looking at them much more closely now.

I'd fast them for two or three days and then feed them some lightly cooked, shelled, crushed peas to give their gut a good 'clean out'.
