is there any sound coming from it or is nothing happening whatsoever? If nothing at all, you might want to try replacing the plug fuse as your 1st port of call.

Oh thank GOD, I had a poke around and the impeller wasn't moving so I twiddled it with a pen - and voila it started moving again... wooh!!

sounds silly, but have you tried just tapping the motor ? sometimes when i turn my juwel filter off, the motor wont come on when i plug it back in unless i hit it or take it out and wiggle it about. dont know why, but always works. but yeah, check the plug fuse.

in that case you might want to think about giving the area around the impeller a good clean. Might be some gunk building up there that made it stick.

I had this problem for weeks with the same filter.

Clean the propellor compartment out just in case.

BUT the problem was the sponge was too dense for the gunk to get through it and it was blocking that little hole up at the bottom. Every 5-6 days I'd have to restart my filter and clean it...but since adding a few ceramic rings to the bottom of the sponge compartment I've only had reduced flow once (in about 2+ months). You just need something to lift the sponge off that hole. I've since bought a second U1 filter for another tank and straight away I added ceramic rings and it's been filtering away nicely since I put it in.

Plus when I cleaned the filter after 2+ months you could see most of the sponge was dirty as opposed to just a tiny bit at the bottom previously.

Follow this advice^

Same happened to me so you're really not the only one.

I just dropped a few ceramics chips into the bottom to "bump" the sponge up a little so it suspends above the small impeller intake rather than letting it sit flush. The sponge is almost too effective but I think that's down to the fact its so thick, I found it blocking up so fast however I've successfully cycled to 3 tanks from splitting this sponge up into 3 pieces. One tank was almost a graveyard my friend who didn't tell me jumped into fish keeping and well stocked up straight away so I threw a piece his way and even though he had stocked 20 fish in the first week  my test kits picked up nothing after 2 days

It's a great filter, but if you play around with it there is much room for modifying the sponge area for whatever media you want.
