Two Red Dwarf Gurammis

Another group would should be fine, just becareful about overstocking the tank.

Unfortuanately you are limited to what fish you can keep with a small tank. I myself had a 60L as my first tank and was happy when I moved to a 125L, it gives your more possibilities

Ok cool, I just want one more group of small fish and 1 or 2 larger fish or a bottom feeder

I would not suggest an Angel or larger Gourami.I have a red dwarf gourami, who tries to bully my Angels. I think you would be safe with guppies, platies, sword tails and maybe a nice pleco or silver shark.

Make sure the water conditions are good and it should pull through, they are quite hardly little fish.

All the best,

Jon :good:

Are you mad??

You can't put a silver shark in a 12 gallon tank! They grow in excess of 12" and need around 75-100 gall

Swordtails will also get too large for the tank.

You'd be ok with a couple of platies or guppies, but if you plan on guppies I'd recommend getting all the same sex otherwise your tank will get overrun with fry.

There isn't many plecos you would fit in that tank, possibly ottos but they need good water quality so a good maintenance schedule is needed.

Can I just ask Jon, what size tank do you have??

Andy

how often do I have to feed them, cos the guy in the shop said one time every 2 days....but the tub of food says 2 or 3 times per day and the fish always seem really hungry when I feed them.

Fish are greedy little buggers and will eat whatever you put in the tank, problem is they wont stop even when full so if your not careful you'll end up overfeeding them which will cause problems.

Ideally feed once a day, as much as they can eat in 2 mins.

Maybe once a week give them a treat such as bloodworm or cucumber.

Also many people find it good to have a starving day once or twice a week, I personally dont feed the fish on a sunday, this just helps to keep your tank a little cleaner, less they eat, less waste they produce obviously

As far as I know I have not gone mad just yet,but then that is open to debate. I must admit I overlooked the size of the tank in question, before replying.I would argue that a small silver shark would be ok for at least 6months, but then I have a habit of buying fish and keeping them for about a year, if they are getting too large for my tank, I rehome them, either give them away to someone who will be able to properly accomodate them, or try and do a swap at the LFS.

To answer you question my tank is 125Litres, whichI will upgrade when I can as I would like to keep some of the larger specimens available.

Its never a good idea to buy a fish with the intention of having to rehome it when it outgrows the tank, its unfair on the fish having to live in inadequate conditions then go through the stress of moving tanks again.

You have the same tank as me, a 125L which is roughly 33 US gallons, but you are going to need a MUCH bigger tank if your plan to keep the fish you have.

Clown loaches require minimum of 75 US Gallon
Black ghost knife fish require 100+ US Gallons
Silver sharks when fully grown require 125 US gallons.

I'm gonna take a risk and get a betta next week, I saw one in a tank with neon tetras and a gurami today and it was completely fine so I'm gonna risk it whilst I only have a few fish rather than stocking it for a few months and then deciding to get one and it killing all my fish, at least if it kills them now I won't have wasted too much time, money and effort on the few fish I have.

when I feed all of the fish, the tetras seem to get all the food and steal it from the gouramis because they spit it out and suck it back in and the tetras get it :S

I got my siamese fighter and he seems to be getting along great with all the other fish :good:
