Firstly, please can someone tell me what kind of fish this is - saw it in the LFS today and I didn't bother asking because they were busy. Unfortunately I know it is too big for my tank but I'm just curious - What is this fish?? - the obvious one with the red eye

Also, my tank is fishless cycling at the moment and has been for 3 weeks. The ammonia is at 0.6 and the nitrite is 0.3. The ammonia is dropping slowly and the nitrite is slowing getting higher - that's what I want, right? Anyway, my second question is - I bought some "Interpet Aquarium Treatment No. 14. Filter Start" from Ebay because I read that it was supposed to be good at "kick starting" your filter. Is it any good? I don't want to undo everything I've so patiently (and completely against my character) done by adding something that is useless and may upset everything.

Thanks in advance. :good:

Thanks Wolf - I asked in the LFS (Pets at Home) if they had bactinettes early on before I found this forum, as I had read about it and they said no (never heard of it) but sold me some Bactozym instead which I have used but didn't seem to make any difference. I will try Tetra Safe Start because I've seen that! Thanks again.

some sort of Angel Fish I'd say

No real need to add anything really but it would not do any harm if used as directed

You ammonia level (0.6 should read 6.0) are you using an API test kit?

When your ammonia drops to below 1.0 then top it up to around 4.0. Your nitrites will steadily rise as you do this untill it goes 'off the scale'. It will take a further 2 weeks or more for your nitrites to drop but they will......eventually!

I'm using a Nutrafin drop testing kit with a colour scale on the back (in varying shades of green with 0 being a yellow colour). The highest and very dark green is 6.1 and mine is between 0.3 and 0.6. Does that make any sense? Thanks
