Not 100% sure, but I think that's a painted terrapin. (not actually painted, just called painted because of the bright colours)
Closly related to the red-eared terrapin (slider)

yup i think its a terrapin because in the UK in our local canals and lakes there are loads of terrapins but the red ear kind dont put your finger to close to the mouth otherwise it will hurt

that pic is quite cute mind i like the colours :kewlpics:

 S/He's gorgeous jht. How big will s/he grow?

That is a really cool turtle. Can I get one?

I want one too! :D But I don't know if we're allowed them in Australia.... I think it's only native species. I don't know about NSW but up here we need a liscence and there's strict rules as to which species are allowed to be kept...

But I'll ask at my LFS, they have turtles. I want one...

Before you all rush out and get one of these, remember that he will grow to a foot-long monster that produces more poop than a herd of cows.

Be prepared for daily 90% water changes or get used to a foul stench!

And I looked it up, it's a yellow bellied terrapin, not a painted.

 I think I'll just admire this one....

i have a 2 red eared sliders and razorback musk turtle in my 55 gallon, with a few fish, and i do water changes every 2-3 weeks... they dont seem to make that much of a mess, and the ammonium levels are not high...

mine dont smell, either...

And how big are these sliders?

An adult would eat those fish and foul the water two hours later.

If you put the turtle in a giant tank, like really giant, would it still need that many water changes? What size tank were you reffering to if you had to do 90% water changes daily? I think that if this turtle was in a GIANT tank, and super filtration, it wouldnt need big waterchanges like that. I just said this so the owner would know how big a tank he/she needs for the turtle incase they didnt know.

That's because they're still little and in a big tank ;)

We used to have some red eared sliders in an outdoor pond. Believe me, once they get bigger, they do make a horrible mess and leave their homes with an unpleasant odor. Ours eventually migrated to our neighbor's pond, which was much bigger :p
Good thing he didn't mind.

Edited for grammar :*)
