Obviously with all the hot weather the UK has been experiencing lately my tanks temperature has risen quite dramatically,
i have tried different methods of cooling the tank and i was wondering what methods has worked for all of you out there?

2 litre bottles of water, in the freezer, cycling between the tanks, lights off, cover off, turbulent surface (which helps with the oxygen levels as well)

Oh, and turn the heaters off, they shouldn't be on, but they may come on if they're near the ice.

i never thought of that, thats a brilliant idea, how long does a bottle last on average?
sorry to ask so many questions.

depends on the size of the bottle and the size of the tank. my 8 pint milk bottles lasted about an hour.

It depends on the size of the tank. On my larger tanks a 2L bottle melted in the space of minutes and barely moved the temps down by 0.5 degree.

What size tank have you got chap?

I float ice packs (like the sort you have in a lunch box) and have them wrapped in a plastic bag.  Another method is using a fan to blow air across the surface, one with a clip to attach to the side of the tank is perfect.
If possible keep lights off, you can always swich to an LED system temporarily as they create far less heat.

100G. I couldn't keep the lights off for 6 weeks as the tanks are planted. Opening the tanks, vigorous surface movement etc,,,most fish got over it but I had a few casualties and I couldn't keep the temps down for longer than 2 hrs a day but I've got 5 tanks, 2 large, 3 smaller so I  ideally needed an industrial freezer for what I was trying to do :)
I just did cold water changes in emergency temps.

got a 20gal, tried the fan method but it upped evaporation so much that when i came back from work half the tank had gone lol.
defiantly gotta try the ice pack method.
thanks again for all the help

Turn on (or install and turn on) air conditioning. Pay a bunch of money in energy costs.  Done.
