When i feed my fish (8 neons. 3 rummeys, 3 danios, 4 platys and 2 sucker fish in 300ltr tank ) i crumple up some of the flakes. I do this so they are smaller and sink quicker so to spread the feed round. Is there any need to do this.

I also feed them a food called ocean quintet as a treat. This is a frozen block that contains moluscs and insects. I defrost this usually, is there any need to do so or can i just wiz it in as a block frozen.

When feeding vegatables such as peas , sweet potatoe etc should you always cook the food first, I,m sure i saw lumps of sweet potatoe raw in the fish tanks in the shop.

Is it ok to perhaps thread a piece of string through the ie. potatoe or cucumber so you can pull it back out of the tank easy if its not eaten quick enough.

Thanking You
Steve.

i do the same with my flake, some i leave whole some i breakup, i always defrost my frozen food before putting in the tank, cook peas for acouple of minutes then deskin and mash and usually cook all other veg also :) hope this helps.....

with veg i stick it on a stainless steel spoon, haven't had any problems, i also have sinking catfish pellets even though i have no catfish at the minute, but all my other fish enjoy them too, so they get pellets and flake food as well as the odd bit of cucumber and pea now and then :good:

I've heard (correct me if i'm wrong) that you have to be careful with undefrosted frozen food, especially with little fish, as the ice crystals are capable of piercing their stomachs...
I always pre cook potato, because of the solidity, and peas because they're frozen. But add all other veg uncooked...

i would avoid cooking the veg you feed your fish, you end up throwing away the good stuff in the water you boiled it in! fresh peas just pop out of their skins, so there is no need to cook em. Carrots, Cucumber, courgettes and the like can, as has been stated, be weighted and dropped in the tank. the only preparation i do is wash them and cut/snap them up. I must admit to dropping frozen food right in the tank, i can see the potential problems, but imo that's just what they are.
