I recently bought one of these little beauties and wondered if anyone has any tips! :good:

think you mean FIGURE 8 puffer.... :p
pretty messy fish so quite good filtration needed, they need snails in their diet as to wear down there sharp teeth, they are fin nippers, better kept on there own with a sand substrate for them to rumage for food in...
very pretty and quite intelligent fish...
hope this was any help.

I'd also add that they do best in brackish water, with an SG of around 1.005. They can be found in freshwater in the wild, but live longer and are healthier when kept in brackish water in captivity.

Also, while they can be "nippy", it isn't uncommon for people to keep them with other brackish water fish, such as knight gobies (my figure 8 and knight gobies have been together without problems for 9 months now).

Hey LauraC,

What size tank and what all is in the tank with your fig8 Puffer?

I went to buy one today, and all 7 of them in the lfs tank were so badly battered I bought a Fugu Puffer instead, These puffers are seriously hardcore predetors (or at least have the ability to be).

I also put 11 feeder minnows in with him and he just ate 5 of them in about 20 minutes!!! I had to net the rest out and put them in a breeder tank so they last a little while.

But, man is he a beauty.

Good Luck.
