Have you ever trained your fish? I was looking for some information on feeding goldfish when I stumbled across this website on how to train a fish. Has anyone ever tried training a fish? I was thinking about doing it with some of my platy fry when they get older. What do you think?

That actually looks pretty cool I may need to try it out too!

I'll try platys. I want to train the goldfish when get them too :)

My son's oscar has learnt to beg for food by jumping up and banging the condensation tray

We've thought about doing some clicker training with him, but it's finding enough time to actually do it that's the problem!

It will never work. Platies and all livebeaers don't even know they are fish. They have had the very essence bred out of them via mass overbreeding from the same gene pool that's why they are known as rats of the hobby.

I have to say, I've found livebearers particularly stupid.

One of my Bettas makes the thermometer click against the glass when he wants attention, I think he's trained me, not the other way around!

I don't think it's about inbreeding with the livebearers: can't really see myself training my more wild type livebearers either. More to do with the type of animal they are. Have never seen a male livebearer who could conceivably take his mind off sex for long enough to push a ball into a hoop. And they are fish- just not the same kind of fish.

I've taught some of my fish to surf..... Oh no wait they were dead being flushed down the toilet lol
