Tpn+ Question

Don't you mean test kits are a waste of money with high tech tanks? I don't see how they're a waste for low tech. I wouldn't say test kits are a waste of time and money, it just depends what you want more...fish or plants.

I understand testing is fairly pointless if you're doing a silent cycle, but isn't c02 (so therefore high tech) necessary for a silent cycle? I doubt many people at all get c02 for the first tank (not with it anyway..). It all seems really expensive too  Which is fair enough if thats what you want.. I'd get it if it was cheaper. The tanks at the green machine are stunning.

I hope I don't sound rude I'm just curious.

I've never had any issues with ammonia coming up on my test kit (API) when dosing TPN+ and easycarbo personally.

not the case, the plants will do the work and in effect you can stock your tank a bit more heavly. Even in a low tech tank. As i have said before they can give false readings and not pick up small amounts of ammonia

i'm not really talking just about cycling, i'm talking from an established tank point of veiw. Yes c02 can be expensive, but it can be done very cheaply, as in the fire extinguiser method. I didn't silently cycle my planted, i use d mature media.

Hi

Quick question regarding this - I've been dosing like we said (except I've been doing 2ml of TPN+ daily and 1.1.5ml Easy Carbo daily)since what looks like 5 July from my log and in the last couple of days I've had a couple of spots of green algae on the glass....what does this mean? Am I doing too much/too little of something?

Can't think if we said but my tank is 55-60L and has a 15w T8 Sunglow bulb which I have on for 8 hours a day(though I have to confess about 2 days a week prob ends up more).

The plants are ok but nothing spectacular and I've had quite a few leaves with brown spots on. My grass like plants at the front are all but dead too :S . None of the cut stalks seem to growing back either?

Ugggggggg, I've noticed some more browing! None of my plants look great to be honest.

What am I doing wrong? ? ?

What plants have you got? What else are you dosing? and what is your water change routine?

Also, try to keep your lighting period the same, your best bet is to get a 24 hour timer, they work a treat :good:

Yeah I've got one but my prob is that I go out Friday and Saturday nights and like it on for a bit when I get in

I change 25-30% of the water 1-2 times a week and the only other thing I use is Prime. My fish (Platys and Honey Gouramis) so nibble at the plants though.

I have Amazon Swords and some similar looking ones that may or may not just be younger ones. I also have what I think are Pygmy Chain Swords and 2 plants that look like grass that are but dead Oh and 2 Bombadas!

There's some photos in this thread. For some reason I've ended up chatting more about it in a different section.
