I have a common and a Fantail in a 29 gallon. The common will outgrow it eventually, and he will get stunted and die. I cannot have a bigger tank because I have literally no more room at all. The Goldfish are quite boring.
I want to do tropical. However, it is too late since I already have my Goldfish. I have a heater, so I could do tropical if my Goldfish were gone. A local park says I can give them my Goldfish to take off my hands and dump in their pond. They have tons of other Goldfish and catfish in there. My fantail is about 1 1/2" long, and my common is about 2 1/2". I was thinking of letting them go, so they can live happily, and be free with their own kind. Also, I'm in Pennsylvania. Its about 35 degrees here in January on average, and 80 to 90 degrees on average in months like July.
In a 29 gallon, there isn't much option for coldwater besides Goldfish. However, for tropical, there are TONS of options for a 29 gallon. I was going to do a tropical community. If I were to let them go, how could I get them from 70 degree tank water, to pond water where it is about 30 to 40 degrees farenheit outside without them going into shock? I think its best if I let them go, and get some tropical fish.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: People are saying Fantail can't go in a pond, what could I do with him then? Also, I wanted Silver Hatchetfish, Black Kuhli Loaches, Otinculus (type of Plecostomus), and maybe some Ghost Shrimp? Like I said I wanted a community of unique fish, like the Hatchetfishes' unique body shape, the Kuhli loaches worm/snake like body, Otinculus cleans tank by eating algae, and Ghost Shrimp for some little tank mates.
