Within 2 days something in my tank has wiped out 80 BN fry, and a 1" BN...

After the tank going through a case of whitespot i have been treating it for approx 2 weeks.. last night i noticed on the 1" plec that he had white/yellow ish spots all over him, so the tretment either aint working, or its something else. this morning everything was dead, only survivors are the cherry and green shrimp.

Bit confused on what to do, any suggestions?

what med were you using for the ich treatment? and for how long?
cheers

Gutted!

Was you using the correct ml dosage for your tank and not over doing it? And as loraxchick says... how long have you been using it for?

Goodluck getting the tank stock back up :good:

Sounds like velvet if the fish have small yellow golden spots.
Velvet harder to get rid of than whitespot, and takes longer.

Are you using the full dose of the med.
Did you raise temp to 30 degrees.
Did you remove black carbon from filter.
Have you increased aeration.
Did you overdose the med.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

What was the name of the med you used?

Hi hun,

In my main 120L tank, i used protozin, half dosed cos only bristlenose in there, there is only 2 other fish and they are my panda show guppies which have been fine throughout, tank now seems cleared and sorted from protozin use.

In the 60L tank, this is where the problem started, i am using API whitespot cure, half dosed due to there been BN fry in there, now i was going to use the protozin on this tank, but couldnt because there is shrimp in it and protozin would kill them, i have come to the conclusion it must be velvet in there and the API whitespot cure was pointless and not touching the velvet.

So what i have done is....

In the 60L tank, i have left the shrimp in, there is no more fish remaining in, i was thinking that if i leave the tank for 3 weeks without adding nothing, the velvet would die off due to there been no host, am i right by thinking this?

If that fails, i will have to setup a small 7G tank for the shrimp, and leave the 60L tank empty of occupents and use protozin on the tank at a pssible double dosage? what ya think?

ps, yes the tank temp was upped to 28-29.... and there is a lot of areation in all my tanks for the Bn's

How are the fish now?
