Hi all, Well just thought i would say hi as im sure im gonna be floating around these forums for days to come.
Today i took the plunge and got me a tank, well second hand, my step son has had to work away so i have inherited his tank.

My set up is :

92cm lengh x 40cm h x 30cm w
Filter is an External Eheim ecco 232
Standard 300W Heater
Gravel, Ortamental stones ( Amethyst & Rose Quartz )
Oh and two potted plants

Im have been reading and listening to alot of info from different people but im afraid im becoming a tad confused, i have so many questions i dont know where to start so here are a few :

1. How long do i leave the tank before putting fish in, im told anywhere between 3 days and 4 weeks !!
2. How many plant do i need ?
3. How many fish can i put in the tank.
4. What temp should i set the heater too, it currently set at 26

Would really appeciate some guidance

Thanks

It is confusing when you first start the hobby as there that much to learn.
Your best option is a fishless cycle, as the cycle takes it toll on fish as they have to go through the ammonia and nitrite process which can damage there gills.
The rule is generally 1inch to 1 gallon, but that can be wrong if you don't take into consideration the fish adult size.
Research your fish before you buy them as to many people put fish in a tank that far to small for them.
Also you have to research that the fish you want to keep are compatiable.
Then there is shoaling fish that need to be kept in groups of no less than 6.
You would be better posting this thread in new to the hobby section of the forum.

Hi,

:hi: to the forum Morph.

1. I agree with Wilder that a 'Fishless Cycle' is your best option. You can read all about fishless cycling in the link in my signature below.

2. You don't necessarily need any plants at all.It depends on personal choice and also what kind of fish you want to keep. Some fish will appreciate lots of plants, and others will just dig them up and eat them. A good idea is to decide what fish you want to keep first, and then decide on the aquarium decor to suit the fish.

3. Again, how many fish depends on what fish you want to keep. Do some research on different types and once yo0u have a rough idea, come back and ask these questions again. We'll be able to help you more at that stage.

4. Again, it depends on the fish, but most tropical tanks are around 25C. 26C would be fine for this, assuming that you don't get any fish which wouldn't be happy at this temp.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

Cheers :good:

it realy depends on what fish you want, try starting out with a few smaller fish like gouramis and barbs you will be anoyed if your brand new dragon arowana decides to stop living, i recomend fish such as bristle nosed plecos, easy keeping and you feed them rarely
