Which is better

Adding water conditioner in and then putting the water in the tank

Or

Adding water to the tank and then water conditioner when the tank is at the right water level
(I think you would have to condition all the water in the tank)

Thanks M4R13Y

I always had the second option down as, treat the whole tank, then top up to the desired level, but I've never actually done this.

Thanks :) I was going to try it but was worried the untreated water out hurt the fish. (It would joy be untreated for a few minutes tho)

There are people who do it that way around, for various reasons, but I understood the standard method to be whole tanks worth of dechlor first.

I use boiled water... Which is cooled. No chemicals. But it makes sense to just treat the water your going to put in as less chemicals to use!

if its only a small amount a water, put it in a bucket and treat the bucket then dump it in.....i dont normally ever top up my tanks, by the time its gone down a bit its normally time for a water change anyway
