i'm finding it ridicoulousy hard to calculate how much tapwater conditioner to add. the one i use is: one inner cap for 45 litres and one outer cap for so, so and so many litres. who changes exactly 45 litres in one water change??? so is it better to slightly underdose or slightly overdose??? thanks

I would personally say based on experience slightly under worked for me.

I'd never under dose. I'm way too paranoid! It sounds like we may be using the same (or similar) product and I added about 1ml to each 6 litre bucket of water. It adds up to slightly over but, hey, I'd rather overdose than kill bacteria :)

i have no idea how much i change - in theory it'd be 22.5 litres but i just change approx a quarter and i cant see the measurements on the side of the bucket (even without water in). i think i use slightly too much.

I use stress coat and thats 2 drops to every litre of water and i overdose by a few drops just to be sure.

may sound a boring task, but if u get your bucket and keep filling it with a 2 liter bottle and say every 5 bottles u put in, wait for the water to settle and mark with a permanent marker e.g. line at 10, 20, 30 liters ect.

i always overdose on declorinator. mainly because i get it free and just to be on the safe side. i also use prime :)

I always use a tad more while trying to stay thrifty and not wasting way too much.
I use a 1ml baby medicine syringe to dose.
The bottle of prime says 1 cap full is 5ml and treats 50 gal of water so after doing the math it would be .1ml per 1gal of water to be safe I add .6 per 5gal bucket.

So for those across the pond the numbers are not as easily even. So I think it would be (using prime) 1ml per 40 L , or roughly .5ml per 19 L (the rough equivalent of my 5gal buckets.)
No need to be that exact.

You can dose up to 5x with prime and see no ill effect from what I've heard.

Yep same here, I OD too!! . Chlorine kills your bacteria and so far as im aware harm your fish hence. It is regular to sometimes double dose so i wouldnt worry bout putting a little too much in as will do no harm!!

I dont use any chemicals in my tank. when i do a water change i turn on the air bubbles for an hour or two

Do you not have any chlorine or chloramine in your water?

I dose exactly as I am on a budget. Then I add just a few drops for good measure.

so a bit much it is!!! i use interpet bioactive tapsafe and it only has a measuring cap. while i'm on the subject of interpet, i love all the stuff they make, it's just almost impossible to figure out how much to dose. and they dont seem to work.

last week i forgot to add the tapsafe to the bucket until after i had put the water in the tank  luckily iy realised after less than a minute so the cloriney water wasnt in there for long but still.
