Hi everyone!

I've been getting incredibly frustrated with my fish recently. My two keyholes came down with bacterial finrot a few weeks ago. 1 is 100% cured but the other keeps on getting it! >.< Nothing too serious though, it goes away if I do a water change but I need to do one every day or two to stop it. I want to grab him and put him into my Q-tank to get rid of it for good but how on earth do you catch them without traumatising the poor things to death? My tank is heavily planted with rocks and driftwood and he's just sooo fast loves to hide!

I've tried leaving the net in the tank for them to get used to...no luck. I've tried using 2 nets, 1 to goad the other to catch, still nothing.

How do the more experienced people do it?

Thanks for any help you can give!

For uncooperative fish, I use two nets. One big one - the sort of thing you'd probably use for an oscar or other really big fish, and one small one. Just let the big one sit relatively motionless and chase them into it with the smaller net. With some practice, you can herd them right into it.

Do a water change while your busy, too - lowering the water level will give them a bit less vertical space to flee, and you might be able to work with your hands out of the water, which will let you move the nets faster.

One big net (8-12inch) sticking out from against the front glass and a smaller net (4-6inch) to chase the fish out of the plants and into the bigger net.
If you have to remove the rocks and wood before catching it.
Move the smaller net slowly and don't chase the fish all over the place. If it takes of behind some plants just move the net over to the plants and flush him out, then start herding it towards the big net again.

Aah! That's some neat advice right there! My two nets are quite small. I'll have to go out and get a larger one!
Thanks to you both! (^.^)/

yup one big net and one small net, remove all decor from the tank, drain the water to one third full, hold the big net at one end of the tank, use the small net to chase the fish into the big one. :good:

DO a large water change and then catch them. Give them less places to hide :good:

A little tip I was given...choose dark coloured nets and try to come up from underneath the fish to catch it. The two net method is a good one I have to say.

When I tried to catch all my zoomy danios I put some algae pellets in the big nest resting on the bottom. They were so greedy they swam in all by themselves

if its 1 fish you're trying to catch, how about feeding them and then quickly netting it. This doesn't work when they realise what you're doing though! :shout:

but yh the 2 net thing works well :D
