Time For A Rethink

Wills you thinking of Coxwells?
Maidenhead at shirley had some rotties in on Wednesday (thats what they were labled as but at 3" not very colourful?). Mine are only tiddlers at the moment not really ready for sale.

Yep Coxwells has some, good store, confish its in Albrighton, near the air museum inside a Wyevale garden centre if you want to find it.

hey all thanks for all the info only problem is ive still got to sell my current stock and add more decor to the tank first also im going on summer hols as im a student so i wont be around my tank as much being its at my uni house so i want to wait till i get back after summer to re stock so still be some time before all this happens as i want the best for the fish. so much choice my main fish i know i want is
1x sev
catfish
clown pleco
8 x dithers

but now with all your suggestions its getting to hard to pick the rest lol :)

The amount my sevs spawn I should easily have some youngsters available by the end of the summer. (or as the weather has been today, has summer finished already lol). Just a quick one on dithers, my male sev hates fast moving fish they really annoy him and it makes his go for the female. I havnt bothered with dithers.

1 x Rottie Sev
1 x Blue Acara
4 x Bolivian Rams
8 x Dithers
+ catfish

that is the stocking i think i will be going with but i was wondering would snails go ok with this as i have a algae problem with my substrate and need all the help i can get ?

If you want to keep your convict it should be OK with your planned new stocking, as long as you don;t have a breeding pair of cons! Single cons are not that aggressive. I have 2 female cons, 3 young jewels and a severum and they get along well. A few chases occasionally but no nasty fights or biting.Catfish are fine with cichlids, though perhaps not cories as they are very small.Plecs and synos should be OK, my cichlids completely ignore them and treat catfish as part of the furniture!

Fishnovice, do you have adult cons and jewels tho? people seem to think...ahhh i have a 3" Convict, it wouldnt hurt a fly...

A 7" Male Convict...and trust me they do get that big has a attitude and punch of a midas.

A female Con will be ok, but will fin nip the hell out of any other cichlids trying to get attention for breeding constantly.

Better off just keeping CA's and SA's seperate.

I reckon:

1 x Rottie Sev
1 x BA
4 x Bolivian Rams (fantastic fish)
6 x Rainbow fish
1 x Catfish/Plec

If you have plants do NOT get barbs, they annihilate them. My tank looked fantastic until I added some Rosy's for colour. They destroyed all my lovely plants - urgh.

I think the above stocking would look fantastically colourful. I think you should try and get the smaller Rainbow species though, as the Bosemani's for example get rather large.

ive got barbs already but i dont have plants just sum tiny java fern but ill be getting rid of the barbs i heard on here that the blue acara can be bit of a pain? what could i have instead also i like the look of rummy noses what type of small rainbows are there?

The Praecox (Dwarf Rainbowfish) would work well, they only get to about 2.5", could maybe have 5 or so of them?

ah cheers ye they do look nice but i think im more inclined on the rummy nose if they are safe? i think i need to look around too see theses all in person any one got any ideas of fish to add as dithers or instead of the blue acara ?cheers everyone

If going SA only you could get hatchet fish, they are nearly always at the surface, and look a little different to say the least. I have 8 marbled hatchet fish at present and will add to the numbers in time I think

ye i think i want to go for a bio type and lol they do look odd not sure yet if there my thing or not lol would they be ok with a sev they look slow swimmers? and would they be instead of the tetras or aswell as?

They seem to still fairly still for half the time, when they do get a move on they are quick quick, they like to huddle together quite a bit...I need more surface plants for them really...

You could have tetras as well but for me they were bought purely as dithers for my tank as they stay at the top at the water line, my tank is for my cichlids :)
