My lfs sold me a green tiger lotus bulb. The salesman told me to plant it in my gravel and wait for it to sprout then bury it a little deeper. It's been in there a week and nothing's happened yet. I have 2.3 WPG and no additional CO2. Will this thing sprout? Do I just need to wait a little longer? The bulb isn't bothering anything so I don't mind being patient.

The tiger lotus are very beautiful plants. You will enjoy it very much when it sprouts, and it should sprout. If it hasn't in 2 or 3 three weeks then it probably will not. If the bulb smells, then it has decayed and is now trash. One of a few apon bulbs I acquired was really stinky, like made me want to puke stinky, after I had it in there for a couple of weeks. This happens. Good luck with your bulb.

So do I need to take it out and smell it? Or will I notice the stench through the water?

It should show signs of growth in days rather than weeks. Ensure it's only half buried with any small stem/leaf already showing uppermost. Does the bulb have any small leaves on it? Bulbs that I have bought have all had signs of plant growth already and have grown real quick into beautiful specimens.

It is literally just a bulb. There are no shoots, leaves, stems or roots. I have a feeling it's not going to do anything as it's been 8 or 9 days with no signs of life.
