Please help. I have a 130L tank that has been established for over 7 months. I have an Tetratec EX700 external filter -so I am well over filtered for the stock I have. Today i noticed that one of my tiger barbs has popeye and that my 3 angels (approx 8mnths old) arent eating - which is very unlike them.

Water stats are near on perfect: Ammonia & Nitrite both 0, Nitrate 20ppm, ph 7.5, temp is 26. I use 50% RO water and 50% tap water.

Tank inhabitans include: guppies, bristlenose plecs, neon tetras, glowlight tetras, 2 tiger barbs & 3 angels.

All other fish are eating fine and being active, apart from the 3 angels. Could this be bacterial?

I've medicated the tank with waterlife myaxine anti-bac, and just hope this works. Angels showing no sign of improvement yet. I've increased aeration in the tank - but they are still hanging near the top.... The only thing I have added to the tank was 3 guppies two weeks ago - could they have brought something into the tank?

Any excess slime on the body of the fish.
Check the gills over to see if there pale with excess slime or red and inflamed.
I think I would of gone with anti internal bacteria med by interpet,
Myxazin says it only controls popeye

No excess slime on the fish. Base of the angels side fins look to be a bit red - could be sceptecimia.
I dont think much of the interpet internal anti-bac. The active ingredient formalhyde is the same as whats in myxazin, so should be ok.

Tiger barb has lost his eye and 2 of the angels arent looking in good shape, the other 1 seems to be a bit better. Just have my fingers crossed that it doesnt affect the rest of the fish population in the tank! Anything else I can do?

Yes red fins is septicemia.
Uk over the counter meds only work on mild bacterial infections.

I'll just have to keep persevering with the myaxzin and see how they get on. i'm resigned to losing the angels and tiger barb, but hope the others are ok. That will teach me to use a Q tank for new purchases!

Good Luck.

Well after 5 days of medicating with myaxzin the tiger barb died - and the angels arent looking much better. One of the angels has developed what looks like a sore on her side near her top fin. It's about 5p in size and looks fluffy. I'm just setting up my Q tank and am going to move any fish that are looking ropey across to it to try and save my other fish.

What should i be treating with?

Do a water change and add some black carbon for a few hours.
I would then go in with anti internal bacteria med by interpet and pimafix.
R.I.P.
