Ive liked snakehead channas for a long time. I now have a spare 40g tank. So im thinking of getting either c. gachua or c. bleheri. Can anyone recommend if these are suitable and where i could get hold of any?

Thanks in advance.

I cant beleive my luck ive managed to find a breeder of the Channa sp assam that lives about 10 min away from me and is selling juvaniles very cheap. Will be picking some of these up on the week end.

Oh yeah best i inform you now, always forget, channa are escape artists, ensure any small gap/hole. are fully covered, either with something like gaffa tape or bung it up well, use cloth<old ripped tshirt in mine, crammed in the tape over, If you do find ones escaped place it back in tank first, before thinking its dead, they have the ability to stay alive out of water, even when dried...Just another member just said his escaped and found them dried up this morning, shame, but reminds me to remind others..Duckweed is a cheap and good option which may help them feel more secure, get a full covering in the tank, also the more planted the tank the better..

Thanks again for the great addvice and picture Nelly. Looking forward to picking these up.

Well got 7 Channa sp assam around 2.5" long and i love them. The breeder even gave me an extra free one. Its a good job because this morning my wife woke me up and said there was one on the floor and only 5 left in the tank. I havnt got a clue where the other on went as ive searched high and low.

I was very aware that these guys were very good at jumping out of the smallest of holes plus Nelly and the breeder also warned me of this so it wasnt neglected. I made sure the lids was tight and all gaps were filled but i left a small gap where the airline goes in and they must have jumped of that, so thats been filled with tape. Im so gutted as i thought id got such a great deal and was well pleased.

Oh well another lesson learned the hard way :(

Nelly do you think id be ok with just 5 or should i get a couple more to replace the ones ive lost ?

Im sure you will be fine with five, yeah channa are the kings at escaping, have you looked behind the tank? they can and ive heard stick to the tank, someone found one dried onto the backside of the tank,

Also what is your tank? does it have any ledges, filter inside where they can sit on top, when i first had mine, i had a jewul tank with the built in filter, theres a small gap on the lid ontop, one of mine got in there, was the one you found dead? duckweed is good across the top of the water, gives them added security

Hi Nelly. The goode news is uve not had anymore jump out as ive sealed and blocked every hole. Im still gutted about losing the 2 after not even having them a day, i feel really sad.

The tank that they are in is am kind of large cube with ledges for the lid. I have a sponge filter in. I still cant find the other one thats lost ive looked under my shelving behind my tanks, although there are some i just cannot get behind so it could be behind there.

The one the wife found was dried up but i did put it back in the tank for a good 30 min to see if he would come back to life but sadly he didnt :(
