This Is The Cruelest Thing Ive Ever Seen

I've come across quite a lot too.

I've seen entirely too many "fighting" videos, of idiots sticking two males in a small container, and watch them fight to the death.

Ugh, sick!

yes there are thousands!!! uuuuuuuggggggghhhh

throw them into an aquarium full of hungry sharks!!!!!!!!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_search

"Google search is a web search engine owned by Google, Inc., and is the most used search engine on the Web."

http://www.google.com/search?q=betta+fish+...tart=0&sa=N

I've gone back several pages, and have yet to find one detailing traditional fighting, much less pellet gun assaults, bettas as feeders, or any sort of travesty. If it was 30%, there would be one in three on the first page, or at least one in the first few pages. This does not seem to be the case.

While I deplore cruelty to any living being, it appears that you would have to go out of your way to find, and then view these sort of videos. What I don't understand is why not link to the breeding videos? Why not link to the vid of a betta reacting to a cricket in another container? What is there to learn from giving demented people their five minutes of fame?

You are giving them what they want; easily attained attention. Attention deprived humans will take negative attention as well as positive attention. You are doing nothing to advance or promote the hobby of aquatics by posting those videos here. You certainly are doing nothing to make other members time more enjoyable or educational here. You are, through negative attention, promoting what individuals such as these feel necessary to do to get some attention. You are playing right into their hands.

We all know it can take mere seconds to destroy what may have taken months, years, or even decades of hard work to create. Yet some members feel it necessary to promote those that destroy, without even a thought of giving those that put their heart & soul into creating the very thing they see destroyed the credit that is more than overdue.

There are plenty of fine videos out there detailing breeding, as well as other interaction, and from what I see they far outnumber the ones showing the demented behavior of a small minority.

I’ve found, the hard way, that dwelling on the negative can lead to a negative life. I for one would sure like to see more of these videos dwell on the positive, in a percentage that reflects the actual percentage that Utube has to offer.

^ Agreed, IMHO there is no point leaving them messages telling them that what they are doing is cruel, like some people have been. They know that it's cruel and they think it's funny, that's why they put it on YouTube in the first place. BUT I still think that when we come across videos that document animal cruelty they should be removed. I have actually stumbled on videos showing the mistreatment of animals when not looking for them quite often, and they are downright disturbing. I've been trawling the net on my own since I was about eight, and I don't like to think of an eight year old typing in 'puppies' and coming across graphic animal cruelty. So we might as well flag them - this one got flagged and now it's gone.

I did not see the video but I know in a James Bond movie, they were showing betta's fighting... I totally did not expect it while watching the movie. It made me sad.

"The James Bond villain Blofeld compared the strategy of SPECTRE of three Siamese fighting fish fighting each other, there two will fight each other to the death while the third will wait on its turn, symbolise the conflict between the USA and Soviet Union as the two fishes and SPECTRE as the third, in the movie From Russia with Love."

^^ agree with you and tolak, just want to get rid of these bad peoplE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm glad you agree with me, and am gladly expecting that 90% or more of the Utube links in this section will show the positive side of betta ownership.

From what I have found this evening you have to go painfully out of your way to find any actual torture videos, bettas, puppies, whatever it may be. If you do a search, as any person looking for info on bettas, or puppies might, you find plenty of wonderful videos. If you do a search for betta fights, or puppy torture, you will find these. Why any responsible pet owner would bother searching for these sort of things is beyond me.

Do a clean honest search for information, and you will find that information. Do a search for the most twisted acts of animal cruelty and you will find that as well.

Someone please explain to me why on this site these videos of animal cruelty should in any way take precedence over the substantially larger percentage of informative, educational, and entertaining videos of the same animals.

I'm glad this has finally been picked up on!! It does seem to have turned into a competition to see who can find the worst video  I personally don't click on the links, not because I don't care but because I know what goes on and find it too upsetting.

I come on here to share experiences of keeping Bettas with other like minded people and to help out where I can. It's a shame that the same effort in replying to other posts isn't put to better use. There are people posting everyday asking for help with sick Bettas or general questions on how to care for them but they never seem to get as many replies as posts like these.

As Tolak said why not show the more positive side of Betta keeping. By all means flag these videos when you come across them but we dont reallly need to see them on here week in and week out.

I think you've missed the point we're trying to get across, that we don't need to have any more of these videos put on the forum please!!!

i am sorry, i did not read that far into the post, i was just hoping someone may be able to report it due to me not being a youtube member, but i guess i should sign up

these video links are going too far, theyre just littering the board, all your doing is provoking people and getting them upset!
why post them? is there a point?no are you helping anybody? noafter the video has been removed is it going to change anything? nowhy are you searching for these things if you 'love' bettas? are you benefiting the forum? no

i am sick and tired of seeing these threads tbh, they just cause heated discussions and are of no benefit to the board.

Well, I apologize for the sunfish video I posted. I guess because I'm new that I did not realize that there had been a lot of other videos posted of that nature. However, I will say again that when I came across the video with the sunfish, I was NOT searching for any such thing. I had just uploaded a video of Albert, and searched "betta fish" to test my tags and see if my video came up. I did so by searching for videos uploaded that day only. That displayed a very few numbers of videos, so that sunfish video was kinda hard to miss on the list. Sorry. It did end up with the kid apologizing and asking for advice on what to feed his fish, at least.

This is my video and it's cute, if anyone wants to see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjpcEgplLYM

"My heart sank to the bottom of my heart when I saw that : /"

this is the best quote ever.

I don't look at links like that because I can't handle them, but I can see a point in trying to raise a group fuss to make it plain that such things are NOT acceptable and are VERY sick indeed.
When such things are not questioned and decried, people tend to start accepting them as 'normal' and we're already seeing this occur...
