This Is Bad...

and maybe there is a tank of replacement neons in the back just in case ;) lol

Think of the size difference between a Piranha and a neon,
The Piranha would lose more energy catching the neon than it would gain from eating it.

Therefore the neons and otocinclus that are present in the tank should be fine until the Piranhas become desperate for food,
and even then it is more likely that the weakest Piranha would be on the menu rather than the neons.

i was thinking about big fish and tiny fish the other day and thought would they even bother but then again some wales feed on plankton

But they expend tiny ammount of energy doing this to get crap loads of plankton lol

also whales are mammals not fish
so do not have the same characteristics

Same principle though, like keeping a predator of any type with small prey sp. fishing cat and fish for example

In the wild its likely neons would be swimming near piranhas, just in aquariums we usually have tanks obviously nowhere near that capacity. a juvenile piranha will try its luck with a neons and most likely win, as will a hungry adult but generally an adult wouldnt bother as its alot of energy to use and probably wont catch it. I dont recommend people trying neons with piranhas in an aquarium at home, well fed or not.

oh yeah these are cardinal not neons :fun:

just being a little pedantic

..
cardinals naturally are eaten by larger fish such as piranha, but since cardinals shoal in hundreds at a time they form a strong defensive shoal that makes it hard for bigger fish to eat them.
