Okay, so I bought a piece of bamboo today for my 29gallon tank... My only problem is that it's too short for the tank and is fully submerged... is this okay? or should I somehow prop it up, above the water level? I've never had any experience with bamboo and just thought I'd get a piece to try out (it was only $6 so w/e)... any help would be greatly appriciated...

is that an aquatic plant? most bamboo type plants ive seen are non aquatic. do you have a pic? maybe i just havent seen the aquatic type..dan

I think I've heard people say that if the bamboo is fully submerged it will die and rot. I'm not sure though. To be on the safe side for now.. I'd try to prop it up so it's not fully submerged until someone that knows for sure can give you a better answer.

Not sure... but my friend whos used bamboo in his aquairums just told me today that they're fine to be full submerged, beause in the wild they are originally full submerged and they just end up growing taller than the water level... So it should be okay :D

Bamboo does grow near water but not in water, unless this is a special variety I haven't seen before. There are lots of different kinds of bamboo, knowing which species you have would help. I've seen a lot of bamboo growing wild near streams and it always stays along the edges. Also, is that actual bamboo or "lucky bamboo"? Lucky bamboo isn't actually bamboo at all but a type of dracaena which is often kept with just the roots in water. Those I know will rot if the cut end is submerged, but you could probably get away with it so long as the top of the plant is out of the water.
