Liz I am going to go one step further than even WD has. Check around your home for a good place to put your next tank and measure the space available. Next go to your LFS and find out how big a tank they have that can be placed there. To me that is the best next tank size. As WD implied, bigger is better as far as water stability is concerned. That means you can see most problems coming before they cause you excessive problems but it also means a bit more routine maintenance. That is the trade off involved. The fish you have at present can easily be fit into a 20 gallon standard tank but is that all you will ever want? I know, as a long term fish keeper, that there is no such thing as enough fish varieties. There is always that next must have fish. If I actually have room for that next fish, I am ahead of the game.
