getting a new tank, I want to have about 6-7 corys, i already have 2. I have 3 mollies and 4 platys, what would be the best size tank for these fish?

Buy the biggest tank you can fit in your home. This will allow you to keep the fish you want and add fish later on if you wanted or change the fish you want to get to something different later on. It will also potentially save you money in the long run as a lot of people will buy a certain size tank thinking its an ideal size only to want a bigger tank in the future.

This is a good thought, to "think bigger" than perhaps your first idea. But there are also other practical considerations. Perhaps the location in your home will provide clues to what can fit and where. There are only certain locations that are really good for tanks and there is plenty written on those sorts of things. There is also the level of committment you have to maintenance as the larger the volume of water you keep, the more moving of water etc. there will be (although that balances against the fact that larger tanks are in many ways easier for keeping healthy fish!)

Liz I am going to go one step further than even WD has. Check around your home for a good place to put your next tank and measure the space available. Next go to your LFS and find out how big a tank they have that can be placed there. To me that is the best next tank size. As WD implied, bigger is better as far as water stability is concerned. That means you can see most problems coming before they cause you excessive problems but it also means a bit more routine maintenance. That is the trade off involved. The fish you have at present can easily be fit into a 20 gallon standard tank but is that all you will ever want? I know, as a long term fish keeper, that there is no such thing as enough fish varieties. There is always that next must have fish. If I actually have room for that next fish, I am ahead of the game.
