I was thinking about setting up a Malawi tank an need some help on them would a 110L be enough ? What PH do they need/substrate/ an which ones I should avoid

That seems a bit small, but it would be ideal for shell dwelling cichlids (Lake Tanganyika).  I'd say no smaller than a 200 L is suitable for Mbuna/Malawi cichlids.

pH should be 8.0+, substrate should be a sand (coral sand is generally preferred as it raises pH and kH for softer water folks).

Ok thankyou an does that sand keep the PH high constant or can it drop after a while an how much does it cost also can I plant it or will they destroy them?

African cichlids and plants don't mix. The floor should be rocky and if your going fir shellies, then you need sone shells.

The spelling errors didn't help I guess - I hate typing on my phone.

African cichlids will destroy plants. On top of the substrate, you will need some rocks, and if you are keeping shell dwelling fish (affectionately known as "shellies") you will need some shells.
