Thinking Of Changing From Tropical Community To Mbuna Or Tanganyikan

Just "window shopping" through TFF to find anything a bit different, even for Tangs...
http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/stores_productsinfo.asp?store=54&prod=2337 (Mud Cichlid, like a Tang Geo, it sifts through sand with long fins to find goodies!)
http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/stores_productsinfo.asp?store=54&prod=1350 (Spatula Barbelled Catfish, possibly my £5 bargain from Aquajardin yesterday)
http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/stores_productsinfo.asp?store=54&prod=2411 (The outside chance of what my catfish might be, but mine does not have white edged fins, this one releases the toxic mucus if stressed!)

Definitely what I would consider 'different'. The Dwarf Bagrid does look similar to the one you got

Watching from the wings here because I am totally envious..

Due to being made redundant twice over 5 years and now working for the NHS my stock, although fantastically entertaining, was achieved by whatever I could find in LFS from a strict budget. Watching you planning your tank/stock mostly in one hit is amazing.

I don't think it will be long before you are Head Girl at the Elite school of Tanganyikan's

Head Girl? Hmm, I doubt it but I`m more than happy to take a back seat to other lovely people who have much more experience than I do :D

I`m very, very lucky that my husband is so easy going. I don`t work (for a number of reasons), so it`s not as financially easy as we wish it was but if it wasn`t for my husband I wouldn`t even have A tank let alone be able to change what I have/had.
He knows that once I`ve set my mind to something that I don`t give in easily so I think it`s a quieter life for him to leave me to it. He`s brilliant and I know how lucky I am
Plus he`ll be happier seeing bigger fish in the tank as he`s never really been a fan of the small tropicals

I am really looking forward to stepping back and appreciating the whole setup. At one point I wasn`t sure I`d be able to make up my dithering mind so to finally 'get there' will be a real achievement, but I definitely wouldn`t have been able to do it without all of you who have given me info and advice so Thank you all :D :good:

I`ve just phoned the number on the advert Goat (huge thanks) and I`ve arranged to go and pick up 8 of the 13 she has next weekend. She`s happy to hold them for me which is good because she said they are quite small at the moment and it`ll give them time to grow a little bit :D

So hopefully, providing arrangements go smoothly I`ll have 8 Leptosoma Blue Flash (Mpulunga) for my tank :D :D :D

I`ll be looking to get the Ocellatus as they actually look like cute little things and all the better if they can hold their own......as long as they don`t do too much damage to my tingers :look:

You ideally want the non jumbo ones. id have a check on what size there gonna get first.

Everything I`ve read so far about the Mpulungu (Jumbo) says maximum size is 4.5"

Apparently the "jumbo" are a touch more aggressive , if you're not read up on the Occies the males are more gold, some have a lovely blue sheen along the cheek and flanks, the females should be paler, duller or more brown :good:

Oh dear!!

Have read up on them and I`m really looking forward to whenever I can get some, they sound great! I have quite a few Escargot shells coming this week so there will be plenty of choice for them to make a home :D

In theory, I'd love the idea of some of kiriyama's "Sumbu shell" to go with my little catsfish in the 620T, via an APC shipment in the new year ;)

I`m still waiting for the egg crate but I received the Escargot Shells this morning.....not sure there`s enough of them though :look:

Blimey, almost enough shells to leave your new rock out of the tank and build a "rock" formation from thees shells!

Never thought of that, could have saved all that money I paid for the Ocean Rock

Bit of a random addition to this thread, but I forgot to tell you that Aquajardin do still have some of those lovely little Rosy Loaches that "Wills" found up his way for his Badis tank. I thought they have all been snapped up, but they were there on Tuesday, at least six

The rosy loaches are very nice :)

I`ve been wondering about bullit`s earlier post referring to the size of the Jumbo Mpulungu, so I`ve done a bit more digging on them. There`s not a lot of info out there on the Jumbo ones but I`ve found this little snippet from Malawi Cichlid website: 'C. leptosoma has a larger variety called “jumbo” which can reach 12-13 cm total length'.

This works out at just over 5 inches in total length and my tank is 55 inches in length, would 8 of the Jumbo Mpulungu still be a viable option?

edit. it says there non jumbo on there
