I`m now wondering if a single Frontosa would be ok in my plan of stocking? ;)

In theory, I'd love the idea of some of kiriyama's "Sumbu shell" to go with my little catsfish in the 620T, via an APC shipment in the new year

Why not turn theory into reality

If you are in no hurry to move them on and you still have some left, kiriyama, I might well take you up on the reality offer ;) (Really depnds upon finances more than anything else, been living on a shoe string for a few months now)

EliseW, I'm not sure if shell dwellers would with safe with a Frontosa around, I believe they are piscivores. Hopefully the others will comment on this.

Nobody Of The Goat

I won't be planning on moving them on till January at the earliest, going to contact APC for next day delivery, will source heat pads and try scrounge some fish boxes from my ever increasing "scroogy" LFS bah humbug.....
I know what you mean about living on a shoestring, I have been on fraed laces months now
Was thinking £5.00 per head for the Sumbu :good:
:fish:

Thanks Goat :)

Not sure if I would be able to help doresy out (if the need arises) with his frontosa because I'm set on the stocking of ocellatus. I wouldn't want there to be compatibility issues between a frontosa and the fish I hope to get.
More reading to do me thinks.

Went over to MA today as hubby got home early. Had to get some fish bags for the current fish anyway so thought I could have a look while I was there to see which Tangs they have in stock.

They have Multis, cycps (although not sure on which ones, browny with yellow tails when older?), leleupi, Marlieri, Brichardi :D ............but unfortunately they don`t have any of the caudopunctatus in stock til around mid January. The ocellatus aren`t in stock anywhere locally so I think I`ll probably go with the multis and see how things are with them.

So, providing the egg crate turns up tomorrow and I can get my tank up and running in time, I`ll definitely be picking up some new fish on Monday. MA have agreed to reserve the fish I want until Tuesday :D :D :D
I asked about the Frontosa while I was there and was advised that as they`re 'predatory' in nature it`s best not to have them with shell dwellers but if people do have them then they recommend that they be small ones that can grow alongside the other fish, which kinda makes sense so I`ll have to think about that one :/

It's good they have so much in stock :good:
Good thinking about the Front before rushing in, if you are as impulsive as me I would have been over and bought the Front and scrounged some Marlieri at the same time
I'm glad one of us has a chance of getting set up, was informed ny LFS today that any tank they get me at over 4' will not have a stand or a hood :grr: and I will need to get a joiner to build one  They do have a 4' tank which is 15" deep and 18" high with a sloped front, cabinet and hood supplied, £159.95  (I'm only £4.00 short  )
I shouldn't moan, just sat down looking at over 30 baby Sumbu wanting there dinner  and I have Tuesday to look forward to seeing all your new pics. :hyper:
:fish:

elise, the multies are meant to be great to watch, always digging and moving the shells about so you wont be dissapointed. youll prob find they move all the sand out the way aswell lol. i see you have plenty of shells for them which they like. As with the front, they will basically and could eat anything that fits in their mouth. I have read though if you get one small so they grow up together they can be alright.

edit. kiriyama. how many fry are you getting in each batch?

It was varying, all the fry I have came from a spawn by both females at the same time, I lost all the first spawn, from the last spawn they all abandoned the shell really quick, prematurely, I think the shell was raided by a plec or one of the males, there were about 4 or 5 crawlers, I have 1 of them in with the fry now, it was shring the shell bed with the Multies for a while
Very true about the multies, by far the most entertaining fish in a tank :good:

Im not sure what to do with mine. Whether to remove the fry soon as i see them or leave them to it. I cant see any of the babies previos now. Whether they were eaten by the other males i dont know.

When I get there tank set up again, as soon as I see the female fanning, I am going to remove her and her shell to a fry tank till she leaves the shell, then she'll go back in the main tank, I think this is the best method, try fishing fry from your main tank, nightmare

I would love to be able to help out with doresy`s Frontosa to be honest but I`m not sure if it would be the best idea as I don`t want to put the other fish I`ve chosen at risk. The Multies are really small, the leleupi are no longer than about 2 inches and the cyps are about 3 inches, possibly too small to put a Front in with them unless it`s a very small one. They do have Fronts over there that are approx the same size as the cyps but we`ll see when I go over and get them.
I`m a bit annoyed at the fact I`m still waiting for the egg crate, I was hoping to have everything ready to start setting the tank up on Sunday so it`ll be 'fingers crossed' that it turns up in tomorrows post. I just hope I don`t have to put it all off for a while :look:

Sorry to hear about your project, it`s so disappointing when things go t*ts up but as my Mum always says "things happen for a reason". You never know, the second tank option may well turn out to be the better option in the end ;)

I`ll take photos as I`m going and upload them once it`s all done....I just want to make a start on it NOW :X

I really liked the look of the multies, they`re really cute and I can`t wait to see the behaviour that you describe :D

okay. Well the shell that she had the fry in has been moved a couple of inches. I dont know if the fry is in the there or not. She left the shell but then does go back to it. Its a bit confusing at the mo. lol. How long does your female stay at the shell for? sorry elise :p
