Thinking Of Changing From Tropical Community To Mbuna Or Tanganyikan

Here is a little preview of how my tank looked this morning although it changes every fortnight!

Nope, natural algae plus Pleco pellets and wafers. That other picture looks like a 'Clown Faced' Cichlid Goby?

The Brichardis do look very nice but are pretty aggressive by all accounts. They were one of the Tangs I thought of having but it`s not as viable an option as I`d hoped :X

Does anyone have experiences of the following which are the fish I`ve seen and would like to keep when I change the setup:
Blue Zebra
Albino Zebra
Dwarf Afra
Yellow Peacock
Yellow Labs (labelled as Daktari? in MA)
Lombardoi
Fire Red Dragon
Borleyi

All of the above are very aggressive, they are Malawi Mbuna's after all, extremely territorial! and very aggressive! (seek the weak=destroy, nasty buggers but fun fish to keep lively tank, lots of hiding places. But they scrap ALL the time. I would go down the Tang road way before the mbuna. They will p*ss you off!!!!

in your tank elise you want around fifthteen cyps as a group.

shell dweller wont really matter aslong as they have a flat area to themselfs for their own terratory. multis are meant to be great to watch. you will want to choose one or many 2 rock dwellers then.

I love the look of what`s been suggested :good: :good:

I will just have to make sure MA have those available. Got Ocean Rock and Egg crates being delivered this coming week, beginning to find new homes for my current fish soooo........

........Tanganyikans are go!! Yayyyyy

I love it when a plan comes together, :yahoo:

I`ll probably have to hunt around for them but this is the list I`ve come up with so far:
Neolamprologus leleupi X2
Neolamprologus caudopunctatus X2
Neolamprologus brichardi X2
Julidochromis regain (Yellow) X3
Neolamprologus multifasciatus X4
'Lamprologus' brevis (M'toto) X6
Cyps X4??

Providing they`re all going to be ok together and I can find them for sale then this will be a final stocking list :D

Meant to say to doresy.....Nice setup! :good: :good:

Yup. That's why I gave them up in the end. Couldn't stand the constant fighting.

Sorry, I completely missed this

Regarding the cyps, would 4 be ok to start with? I`m going to have to try and source all on my list anyway but wondered if I`m better off keeping numbers smaller to start with?

Thanks, i think after the reading I`ve done, that the Tangs would be a better, lesser aggressive option :good:

I`ll probably have to hunt around for them but this is the list I`ve come up with so far:
Neolamprologus leleupi X2 meant to be quite aggressive
Neolamprologus caudopunctatus X2 might attempt to use shells of your shellies but should be ok
Neolamprologus brichardi X2 id have one or leave them. if they breed its bye bye to everything else
Julidochromis regain(Yellow) X3 prob avoid. can be nasty. avoid Julidochromis marlieri aswell.
Neolamprologus multifasciatus X4 you just want one type of shelly
'Lamprologus' brevis (M'toto) X6
Cyps X4?? as said previous, you want a dozen atleast. should be in groups really.

are you wanting to breed any?, as you want to buy groups and wait till pairs form etc.

Providing they`re all going to be ok together and I can find them for sale then this will be a final stocking list :D
