Thinking Of A New Aps External Filter

Thinking of getting a new All Pond Solutions external filter as my Fluval 205 keeps playing up the odd time. My tank is 180 litres, would the 1400 be a good model to get or should i go for the 2000? Both seem like overkill, but i guess the more turn over the better?

1400:

1400 litre turnover
600 litre tank maximum

2000:

2000 litre turnover
1000 litre tank maximum

Supposedly they are. IDK, seeing the price is not too bad, if it doesn't work out, it won't destroy me. I am just tired of running two huge HOBs on my 55 gal Malawi tank.

i know a couple of people that run them with no issues so far, they are slightly noisier than rivals from what ive heard but not going to make you deaf....

my only worry would be quality of parts like taps, seals, power head etc and how long they are going to last. also dont forget that when full of media the flow rate will be reduced significantly and it can be further adjusted on the taps if needed.

if they are good quality items that are well made then for the price you cant fault them but i would be slightly concerned.

I wanted one basically for the UV function, and of course added filtration in a messy cichlid tank is a must

As you say, for the price they're worth a punt. Might have to give it a go. Might wimp out though and just get the 1000 which still says it is suitable for tanks upto 400 litres with a turn over of 1000 litres an hour which is still 5+ tank volume turnover. Then i can get a new propeller unit for my 205 to see if its that that is the issue. I would then run the 205 on my 125 tank if it all worked out.

What's the application? Standard community tank or planted set up?

It's a 180 litre American Cichlid tank. There are a few plants in there, but not exactly what you would call planted. There is also a powerhead in there shifting 600 litres an hour.

I'd stick with the 1400, but that's just me, I like good circulation.
