Thinking About Getting Plants

I think this is the right place to post this. I pretty much need to know everything there is to keeping plants. I've never kept live plants before. I just read some about it but I don't know if I could trust the site so i wanted to here it from you guys. So thanks!

many plants sold in the lfs that are cheap are usually low maintainance plants. Such as dwarf sag, cryptocoryne, java fern, anubias, bolbitis, java moss.
 
I get a combo of java fern, java moss, anubias and bolbitis. They are near invulnerable

So I wouldn't have to do anything special? All I'd have to do is keep doing water changes and rub any algea off of them?
Oh and these would be fine on play sand right?
And in a 30 gallon
