Ok i'm very confused what fish can go tegether. I've seen these i like at lfs -
yellow labs, electric blue, annie, and black ones cant remember name, but do they go together and how many of each can i have?

Ok, this is a list of fish i like :

venustus, Yellow labs, zebras, red zebras, fryeri, peacocks. Demason

Will they go together?

Electric yellow lab x4
Red peacock x3
Zebra obliquidens x3
marbled peacock x3
Polli Synodontis x1

Can anyone tell me if this will work. I found these on a site called "aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk" they are recommended to go together on this site but just want to double check.

Any mix "Could" work. Why not just go either hap or mbuna?

those fish will work with few problems. none are overly aggressive and all are capable at defending themselves from each other.

durring my research i have noticed that some people keep clown loaches with there malawi cichlids, is this safe as i dont want any halm to come to my clowns ?
Thanks all for input so far :good:

It is normal to advise not to mix cichlids from differant areas or groupings.
Electric labs are mbuna (rock dwellers) from lake Malawi, Zebra obliquidens are Haps from Lake Victoria,
The peacocks on the list are again a differant genus group.
Saying that I myself have Zebra obliquidens in with the rest of my mbuna species and at this present time have no problems. This could be as my fish were all put in the tank together as fry/juveniles and is also heavily overstocked. Both of these points I would advise as a 400L tank is very large for the 14 fish you list. I would advise that (with adequate filtration) approx double that amount as adults in your tank. If you go down the juvenile route 40+ fish would be fine ( this gives you the option of cherry picking the best fish and there social groups as time goes on).

I do know of people who keep clown loaches in their malawi tanks with some success but it really is a bit of a gamble
