I think my poor little guy is sick. I've only had him for about a week. He's still eating but seems to find it hard to swim and just sits in the plants. He was quite active until yesterday. I treated him for finrot and he seemed to go downhill very rapidly. I made sure i calculated the right amount of medication and followed the instructions exactly. Maserati can barely swim to the surface to breathe and when he does he just flops back down and rests where he lands. He looks like he's swallowed a marble at the moment and often sits at the bottom of the tank on his side. I dont know what to do or what to treat for. His scales aren't sticking out so i dont think its dropsy but i dont know what else it could be.

Hi, sorry to hear about your betta but it sounds like he may have swimbladder disease it is caused by overfeeding, cook a pea and cut into little pieces and feed to him as this should help clean him out.

Hope he gets better

I've fed him a pea and he doesn't look much better really. Hopefully he'll perk up a bit. I'll just monitor then and try not to feed him too much. I always add the occasional pea to the tank to try and clean them out a bit. But I haven't actually seen him poop since I've had him. Think he must have because he'd have exploded by now or been an awful lot less active at least!
