Hi, i bought my juwel aquarium about 7/8 mths ago, and it came with a 200w heater. Anyway, when i first set up, the heater was set at 26C but both my thermometers read 24C. So i set the heater to 28C, and both my thermometers read 26C. So i came to the conclusion that my heater is slow by 2C....

Ever since, ive been keeping a close eye on it and its been set at 28C but the actual temp has always been between 24C & 26C. Now, the past couple of days ive been getting up in a morning to notice the temp is 20C - 21C  and it rises throught the day to 24C with the light on/room temp ect, then through the night, back down to 20C - 21C.

I put my hand in to feel the heater and its not even warm. Ive checked the plug/plug socket and everything and its all fine. Its just my heater aint getting hot enougth, or even at all ???

What do you think ? What shall i do ?

Buy a new heater, check wat the room temperature is then check water temp and you should come to the conclusion, it works or the conclusion you need a new heater -_-

If the heater not keeping the water temp to what you have set the temp dial to you need a new heater.
Wrap the tank in a blanket for tonight as you don't want the temp dropping to fast as it can cause whitespot, columnaris to swim bladder.

For some reason that is one piece of equipment that has to replaced every so often or is is bad when you buy it.

It is wise to have a spare heater if you can affford it.

Thought so...

I have a spare heater but its only 100watt and i need 200watt, would it help at all ?

thanks btw ...

I would think that a 100watt heater is better than no heater, atleast until
you can buy a new heater (ASAP).
Turn up the heat in your apartment and put a blanket around it like Wilder suggested!

ok yea, ill put it in now. do you think i should set the temp abit higher with it only being a 100watt ?

Ok, well i put the 100watt in and it seems fine. Its set at 24C, and my thermometers are reading 24C :D

I will however be buying a new 200watt tomorrow ...

I have to set mine to 28 to get 25C, heater is at the bottom thermometer is at the bottom, taking it back later.

UPDATE...

OK, i called the pet store i bought it from and explained what had happened, and they told me to take it in to have a look. So i did and they replaced it for me .. :D

However, when i got home i realised they given me a 300watt !! (the heater i took back was a 200watt)...

Will this be ok in a 3 & 1/2 foot, 190litre tank ??? It wont over heat it will it ??? it says on the box, for 260litre - 450litre tanks :S

thanks.

If your house is cold, not about 20C average room temp, then they recommend you use more watts and put down the temp slightly. However if I where you i'd go and get a 200W :)
