i know it's not meant to happen but a few weeks ago i had platys and limias in the same tank (rekord 60)
The platys then got tranferred over to the rio 180 while the limias went to the aquaone 620t 130ltr

while i was sat studyung the fish tank searching for my little unknown fry (awaiting id) i came accross some platy fry but they have the dark black stripes like the humpback limias

Could hybridisation have happened - will post piccys when cameras charged (nearlly done)

Thanks Sarah xxx

Were any of the platies females that you have owned for less than 6 months? These fry are probably swordtail hybrids, many swordtails have stripes. As far as I know platy/limia is impossible, have a look at the shape of the gonopodium for a start and they're not even in the same genus.

platys came from maidenhead guarenteed platys (well as much as they can be nowadays) and were under age of reproduction when i got them - basically fry / juveys
2 of my platys were adult females but these weren't the mums of this batch and had only been kept with platys

i got these fry/juveys ones oct 5th and these are her first lot of fry so she didnt have many

i know people breed limias and mollys , guppys and endlers (i know these can all hybridise between themselves anyway ) but just wondering wether it might have happened

cheers sarah x

You sure they aren't just limia fry? Try and get some pictures.

definately not limia fry as the limias are in a different tank and have been for weeks (the platys were in with the limias for a couple of days . they havent produced any fry yet , i have some pregnant females now , one looks nearlly due

trying to get a video/pic of them but its a bit hard they are hiding at the moment still but when i find one i'm going to transfer it over to the fry tank- the platy gave birth to 5-6 live fry (they are the strange ones) the rest were dead - which was strange - she usually has really healthy fry

Simple answer is no, their impossible to cross breed.

If ur sure their from a platy then it's gonna be a play fry if you only had platies and limia's
