They Have Arrived!

I would get all the info you can together to make a stong case. He's either dodgy or hasn't got a clue
When I mentioned about their nipped fins he said that he had had loads of them in the same tank and there wasnt a problem but they are obviously not peaceful as two of them keep flaring like mad, chasing the others and trying to nip at them.

in his defence, girls can do this, they need to sort out the pecking order again now they have been moved

But aren't Imbellis meant to be peacefull and kept together ok or am I wrong on that?

edit, just googled them.
Common name
Peaceful betta
Temperament to its family

peaceful

Temperament to other fish species

peaceful

So surely going by that the girls shouldn't be fighting anyway?

even though yes at this stage they do look like splendens, try and wait to see what happens with them, they may well change colour once settled in for a while, i wouldnt jump the gun so fast and tbh honest peeps the responses to just NO they are not imbellis isnt justified as time needs to be given to be sure completely.

When you contacted Paul at Chilton did you send the photo's of the fish ?

He may have an assistant who picked the wrong fish for you, but without photographic proof of what you have received he could be getting confused.

But in all honesty they look like VT females or juvies (you may even have a pk male in there so keep a careful on them).

You could direct him to these sites which clearly show a diff colouration to the fish and also the tail / finnage shape --
Imbellis 1
Imbellis 2
Imbellis 3

Admittedly all these photo's show males, but even so the colouration in your fish are totally wrong.

Thats what I thought initially but they just look so completely different its hard to imagine them changing so much. Keep staring at them willing them to change lol!

I am by no means knowlegable at all about bettas, i have one mysef but have no idea what type he is.

ive tried to google the imbellis and have found one link that is similar to the pics you have posted the link is HERE

It does show a female that looks V similar to yours

Well Ive had an email from Paul saying that he is sorry that I am dissatisfied and that as far as he knows they are Imbellis as they have not had a problem with the breeder before with other types he has sent. As I want to keep the fish anyhow he is going to let me have them at cost ie £2.50 and refund me the difference which I am more than happy with. If they turn out to be Imbellis then I owe him a big apology Lol! I do believe that they are a reputable company and looking at what they stock it looks like a goldmine for buying harder to find fish so I wouldnt want anyone to be put off from buying from there, infact Ive already spotted they sell Blue Limias and I need some more females lol!
Thanks for all your help guys :good:

the wife is either lieing or stupid, those are plain betta splendens. you are going to have to push to get your money refuded for these girls because it sounds like the sellers are trying to hose you.

agreed newfishy, i was like hmmm woa they aint imbellis, ive been trying to source some for ages and no way do they sell for £5 per fish

this so called breeder is just trying to make a quick buck off you and trying to convince you that he knows better. I am guessing you payed with paypal or a cc, call him again and tell him if you are not refunded you are going to file a claim to get your money back and it will not be good for his business.

pretty ladies, anyway the purple is nice, looks very similar to a splendas / imbleies male my friend has though,,,, maby the breeder had both types and accidetly cross bred them?
