There Are Some People

Quick story: My girlfriend's brother had a fundraiser of some type for one of his "clubs" or something... Anyways, he won a betta in a small bowl that was still in it's "pet store water" (blue). He brought it home, and two weeks later, he decides to tell me he got a betta. When I saw the fish still in it's "blue-water", stuck in a tiny bowl, and the "blue-water" halfway evaporated, I just about tackled him through some sliding glass doors (over-exaggeration). Well, at that point, I acted like the fish police; I confiscated his nearly motionless fish. The fish has now been in my 18 gallon planted for about 2 days, and It's still been looking ill. News if the fish makes it - yet to come....

Good on you, can you tell us the symtoms of the fish, he might need treating with a bacterial med, as if he's been kept in bad water quality it can cause bacterial infections.

and bettas can be prone to quite a few external infections such as fin rot pretty easily so please give us details and we can help

He's got great color still (red), and he just kind of sits at the bottom, and when he does swim, he swims nearly vertical (head up)....

He sounds like he might have swim bladder, does he look bloated, does it look like he has trouble maintaining his balance in the water.

That's what I was thinking....

He is not bloated, and he never swims in circles or flips, he just swims verticle....

Good thing you found him in time; im not sure how somone can neglect a betta so much personality.

He just started eating this afternoon!

He wouldn't come to the top to eat floating pellets, but I put in some of my tropical crisps (slow sinking) and he went for those as soon as they got close to the bottom.

Shelled peas and frozen daphnia.

This morning, I got out of bed and checked on the little guy, and there he is, swimming up a storm when I came to the tank to feed him. He almost came up to the top to get food, and he only seemed to swim verticle when he was going up... the rest of the time he stayed well - balanced!

It's good to hear that he's recovering! Good thing you got to him in time. Unfortunately, some people just don't know better
