I just don't trust them as they get very territorial. Google search 'African Tiger Fish'. I have a near ten inch A. Tiger Fish, and my brown knife even had the guts to chew on his tail!! I wouldn't recomend them.

Don't try to say you know a fish's personality before it even leaves the store.

CRIKEY.
Are you sure this isn't another type of knife, like a clown or another rarer breed?
This really shouldn't happen with an african. Something had to be wrong

in defense of Wonderboy on this one...

knife fish are known to get territorial as they grow. you could kep them as long as you keep them in a tank that makes them happy and gives them plenty of territory. my knifefish died shortly afteri got it (sickness from the store and i never noticed). but anyways, he was docile. liek any hybrid or oddball or any other fish for that matter, it depends o nthe individual fish.

peopel tend to forget that jsut like humans, each fish has a unique personality. you may get a "nice" one but someone else may get a "bad" one. it depends on the fish, conditions in the tank, tankmates, a million things.

i would say wait on the knifefish for now. it will be worth the wait. but if you really think you can really pull it off and you have a plan just in case it doesn't work out, then i say go for it. if not, please don't think about it right now. there will be plenty of other knifefish sold and you will come across them again. don't worry about that.

Nevergone815 said it right. And, Gankutsuou, I don't know that you have the grounds to claim that an African shouldn't do this. I have a 180 gallon tank with a motoro stingray, an African tiger fish, a silver arowana, AND a clown knife fish. I used to have an African brown knife (6-7") with all these, and it attacked all of them. Little thing made my soooo upset , that I chased it around with a toy shark! Ok, not really, I resold it.
