The Smallest Tank Size For?

Hiya, don't know infirm posting in the right place but I was wondering what the smallest tank size would be to comfortably house a group of discus in? Probably around 6 with maybe a small shoal of cardinals?
Also, I always thought discus needed remineralised RO water?? I live in hertfordshire and I think the water is quite hard around here but haven't tested it however I saw a LFS selling discus suitable for tap water in our area

is that wrong???x

They will last a short while in the tap water around herts but not for long, they end up getting sick and wasting away in the long run. Plus its incredibly hard to keep the water 100% clean when the tap water often had high nitrates, i lived in Herts for a while and nitrates often hit 80ppm... in Bucks its between 80-100ppm at the moment!

100% Dont advise using your local tap water! Shops also have much larger systems and much larger filtration, water changes, uv steralisers etc that help keep water a lot cleaner than it would be in a tank.

If you are looking for discus, i know its horrible buying from pictures without seeing the fish but Jakes Discus is amazing, he is really far north though. Better quality than any of the discus you find locally.

I would aim for 4-5 discus (as adult size) in an *absolute* minumum of 250 liter 4ft tank, though a taller tank would be better, 4 x 2 x 2 or 4 x 1.5 x 2
