The worst one I saw at a store called Pet Supplies Plus. That store I got my Severum from (labeled as an Oscar...). But I would never get a fish from there EVER again. All the fish had ich (including the one I bought). But two days ago, I saw a Common Pleco with no eyes. :( It will probably starve from having trouble finding food, and I doubt anyone will buy it... same place, I saw Convicts in with Puffers, a ton of dyed fish, and a White Skirt Tetra with no tail (was there for months).

Also bad was Wal*Mart, there was a Goldfish tank with 9 Goldfish, more specifically, 9 DEAD Goldfish. :(

A dog face puff, with clouded up eyes, nipped fins and some rot trailing from its fins. The next time went in, he had one eye...really sad little puff..

:( It is sad when a fish is clearly suffering and a store still has it out for sale. They should separate it to not get the other fish ill, but this is never the case.

Plecos losing their eyes is quite common they can still survive and live a full life without them. Normally cichlids are the main suspects from what I have heard.

It's heartbreaking seeing fish in such poor condition. Since starting up my hobby in July, I've been to numerous fish retailers and have yet to find a location where there are not any dead fish in at least one tank. It's gross!

I have no idea where to purchase from!

its inevitable that a store is going to get a dead fish from time to time...1 dead fish shouldnt put you off...if theres thousands then its understandable

Two yellow Labs I saw my freshman year at high school. They were in a 20g tank, no rock work or anything. Only have the water in the tank, they had not been fed in almost 3 months, and they had not had a water change in just as long.

:( Was this at a store or did somebody own them?

If I had saw them, I would have brought them some sort of food... wouldn't care if I got in trouble for it...

(sorry double post)

Actually didn't know that, thanks for the info. :) Still, less likely to get a home than the other Plecos. :(

went to check out an lfs today that i had never been to before and all the tanks were full of manky water and all tanks had bad algae.... but there was 1 tank that was only 2/3 full of water and the water was like a redish brown in the tank was a huge plec and another large fish that couldnt even swim due to the lack of water! couldnt tell what plec or what species the other fish was as the tank was horrible and couldnt see in it very well. there were also about 20 large pellets floating on the surface that couldnt be eaten as the plec wouldnt get them and the other fish couldnt move............. i was disgusted and walked out

Male Bettas in Pier Aquatics, Wigan. UK.

Kept in water cooler cups on top of the normal heated tanks and looking very close to death. Maybe death was the best thing for them rather then having to live in a cup which they couldn't even turn around in.

An Oscar in P@H brought me to tears - was about 4 inches and in with another oscar at about 9/10 inches. The smallest was beaten to a pulp, no eye, finrot with fungus and holes gouged out of it's side :(

Saw 6 oscars in a 10 gallon tank today.. Along side a 6 inch parrot in a 10 gallon, not to mention the numerous cichlids in the 5 gallons.. anywhere between 4 and 6 inches.. All dirty water , tons of algae and have been there for at least 6 months as I check the lfs on sunday when I go grocery shopping!

I want to buy them but have no room right now.. sigh..

The livebearers were sicker then anything, red gills, fin rot ect.. It was sad to see.. :(

I'm being a huge wuss here. I can handle blood, scary movies, needles, you name it, but I abhore mistreatment of animals and the sight of a dire ill one does really get to me. I can't read any more post that are gonna be added to this thread - it deeply upsets me.

(I actually value the life of an animal to that of a human).

If I'd have witnessed any of the above cases I would have sounded off to the store owner/manager without hesitation! I have done in the past!!!!
Poor little creatures, they have no say in how they are treated!
