So the family sat down to dinner last night and my husband asked me why I'm putting ammonia into the fish tank. He stares at me blankly as I start talking about the nitrogen cycle (although he has a background in chemistry lol), so I pull out a piece of paper and go into a deep explanation with illustrations. My five year old son listens eagerly and copies my drawings, and produces this:

It shows a fish producing ammonia, the two stages of nitrifying bacteria and a plant consuming the nitrate and decomposing back into ammonia.
It's on my wall now :D
