Yes,very interesting. There is another dangerous freshwater fish. It is a parasitical (dunno if thats a word)fish that swims in to fishs gills. Howver, it has been known to swim up males genitilia whane htey are in the water. It lays its eggs and the young feed off your insides. Anyhow don't mean to give you nightmares but its pretty interesting how much damage a fish can do. I can't remember its name will post later.

Aha! We were warned about that in jungle training in Belize.
DO NOT WEE IN THE RIVERS!
There is a fish a little like a stickleback which will swim up your urethra and , unable to back out because of the spines, will get stuck, die and rot and in some cases amputation is the only way to save the casualties life!

Oh, my eyes are watering just thinking about it!

How about the amazonian arapaima, larger cousin of the arowana, if you invade it territory, it will swim at you full speed and butt you with its armoured head.

PS: They can get quite big too

Slightly off subject...but...while on subject of the jungle rivers....there was an American couple who ventured through the Amazon River on a boat. They had already been there a few days.

While on the boat, the top of his head was itching. It began to itch so bad no scratch or anything he did could cure it. His wife finally looked at it (he was balding) and there was a lump in his scalp moving. It finally burst open and a creature squirmed out, which then flew away.

Its known as the Botany Fly.

Yuck!!

when i was younger, my mum told me that Malcolm's spines [common plec who at the time was 8"] were poisonous... Till this day I've always thought it possible... it's not true though is it?
