Hi!

Well i got my tank 6 days ago, on the first day before i joined these forums i added a bottle of tetra aqua safe start stuff.

Anyway moving on to yestarday i started off the fishless cycling of my tank with some amonia and the handy calculator on this site, brought the ammonia up to 5ppm, then i tested it once i had added the ammonia, and sure enough the test came back "morning pee" yellow.

So i have just tested the ammonia again tonight (i have repeated my experiment 3 times now) and the results have came back with exceptionally low amounts of ammonia, you can hardly see the yellow tint in the water it is so pale!

So has the bacteria in a bottle worked? who knows!

I am going to bring my tank back up to 5ppm tonight and see if the results repeat them self, then tomorrow evening test the nitrite and nitrates as well!

I think you are saying that you raised ammonia to 5ppm and then tested minutes later, and the test showed virtually no ammonia. Am i correct?

If so, you have either done something wrong or your test kit is faulty. Even a fully established filter wouldn't process 5ppm of ammonia that quickly, let alone Tetra Safe Start which is as useful as a chocolate fireguard!

no i added the ammonia yestarday morning, tested it stright after and the results came back as 5-6ppm

i then tested it again tonight and the ammonia levels were neglible / non-existant.

there was 36 hours between these two events

lol, psc.
Axle is our resident bacteria in a bottle expert, his favourite brand bactinettes. Had he not been playing snooker, he would most probably have given you a lecture!

Looking forward to results!

Wait you pee'ed in your tank!! No no Just kidding, Interesting. Never used the stuff. So your basically saying so far so good!?

And what are your nitrite and nitrate readings?

From my experience of safestart it will easily remove ammonia, but does sweet FA for nitrite.

havent checked the nitrite and trate tonight, i've just brought the ammonia levels back upto 5-6ppm shall post the results for everything tomorrow evening.

hey, sorry for the late reply, but better late than never!

Here are my results after 48 hours, i initially started out at 4-5ppm of ammonia, here is what i am at now:

Ammonia : 0.02ppm

Nitrite : 0mg/L

Nitrate : 10 - 20 mg/L

how does all that sound
